mixtup
cool.. nice lines. You could probably tone down the light from above, just until you get some detail back in the top railings as they are overly blurred. Out of curiosity, did you model it in Autocad Architecture? The door and railings look familiar that's all.. Only other thing that stands out is the gap between the floor and walls. It could be there on purpose but it dosn't look so good at the base of the stairs or the door frame. Other than that, looking forward to seeing it at a higher resolution. innerdream
Looks like a nice model! Those obscure camera angles that are in vogue kill it for me every time. I personally think it looks unprofessional.
neko
school's out for summer..... school's out forever.... edit: chrome edges on stairs look awkward...i like the composition though
Claudio Branch
Love the composition and the lines, but it looks like it has a Photoshop filter on it or perhaps it's straight out of SketchUp? Let's see a version with just straight GI lighting...
mskin
There is a filter on it, a slight water color filter to make it look a little less CG. I was just playing around and kind of liked it because it does make it look less PR but doesn’t abstract it too much. Attached is the Unfiltered image. The owner wants to sell the opening in the floor to potential sponsers, to hang something from the sloped ceiling way above. It has a fairly small footprint but is a three story vertical space. The goal is to show the opening in the floor and describe the volume of the space, hence the worm’s eye view. A 20mm camera 10” off the ground with a camera correction modifier applied to it. I,m using 3d max 2009 with mental ray, mental ray materials (promaterials), a daylight system and photometric lights. FG and GI are enabled, but on draft settings. The scene, being a WIP, has 4 materials. They are a Matte White Paint, a glossy paint (hand rails, windows, etc), a grayish brown floor and glass. The modeling is split pretty evenly between autocad and max, I modeled the doors and frames.
shaneis
The owner wants to sell the opening in the floor to potential sponsers, to hang something from the sloped ceiling way above. In a school? That's terrible. Get 'em while they're young, I guess. They are a Matte White Paint, a glossy paint (hand rails, windows, etc), a grayish brown floor and glass. The modeling is split pretty evenly between autocad and max, I modeled the doors and frames. I think the glossy white needs some more blurring in the reflections and there is something not quite right about the mapping of the trim on the stairs (foreground, right). I really like the camera angle though. This will be quite a nice rendering when it's done. S.
mskin
thanks. Sponser is wrong... "donor" would be more correct. its a private school and naming rights/contributions are a major element of funding. Presumably some one/entity would contribute a sculpture or artwork for the space. i will say i found modeling the space to be one of the more complicated geometries i've dealt with. i don't know if it is the actual geometry or the drawings available (which i created during cds) but for some reason it was tough. it sure doesn't look like a complicated space and some of the other things i've done looked more complicated.... but were easier to make. go figure. shaneis
Oh, that makes more sense. I was picturing corporate banners hanging from the ceiling.
mskin
i think/hope that justifies the camera angle... for those who find it unprofessional.
