shikodesign2000
Hi, I want to apply a hdri map on a metal building, to show for example skies and skyscrapers and so on...I tried applying hdri on spherical objects, and that was very nice, but on cubic objects like metal cladding buildings, I couldn't make it, I tried to play with the hdri map settings in the material editor, but no hope:confused:..can I get your help in this please?? if you tell me some tutorials in this, this will be great.. Stephen Thomas
Place the Vray HDRI map in the reflection override slot of the environment rollout in your render settings. The map type (angular, cubic, spherical etc.) is related to the format of the particular HDRI file and has nothing to do with the geometry in your scene. mattclinch
are you using HDRI purely for reflections?
shikodesign2000
Ok Stephen, that's good, but is that means that there's many types of hdri maps (cubic, spherical, angular, mirrored..etc)?? or, the hdri maps are one thing and we change the type by clicking any of these choices (cubic, spherical, angular, mirrored..etc)?? Stephen Thomas
Yes, they come in different formats. The most common image format is the spherical type, or latitude/longitude which has a 2:1 aspect ratio. The cubic type is cross shaped, like an unfolded cube. The angular map type is for mirrored ball or light probe type images.
shikodesign2000
Ok, I have another question: what's the best material to put on the building? shall I put any reflective shiny silver material? that's all? or there's a special specifications for this material?? I know ofcourse that the game here is to try hundreds of times, and I make this ofcourse, but I can't ignore your experience, advices and openions that can make me avoiding wasting my time in many false tries.. Also, can anyone tell me where I can find a free hdri maps which can reflected on buildings for tirals??
