stevel
I'm a newbie, learning Kerkythea. I import my scene, then start loading the material editor with alpha maps, bump maps, etc. It crashes. Does anyone know if there could be a limit on files entered into a material editor?
kippu
i am very sure there is no limitation on files in a material editor, if you run out of slots you can make a fresh one...removing a material from mat editor wont make it disappear from the scene
stevel
Any idea why it would crash? If I run a test of the scene without adding alpha maps and bumps to the material editor, it works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated! alrawli
What kind of image size/res are you using for the alphas and bump maps? Might be that theyre too big. Ive had a few problems with that in the past.
stevel
Some of the trees I'm using are 2500x1800--they're probably the biggest. Obviously, the trees in the scene are scaled down, but the alpha maps are full size.
alrawli
If there are alot of them in the scene and they are in the background id reduce the size of them. Depends on your output size and if these objects are in the foreground. What version of max are you using and which display driver?
stevel
I'm learning on Kerkythea (newbie). I have about 5 or 6 of these high resolution trees in the background, but in the scene they are obviously scaled down. Should I scale down the corresponding alpha maps as well (not sure how to do this)?
alrawli
Sorry assumed you were using max, my mistake. Not knowing the program, i would definately have a go at reducing the size of the images your using for alphas. If you have photoshop then its a simple resize would do the trick, if you dont have photoshop then have alook around the net for for something like 'Irfanview' which will let you adjust the size of the images your using.
