schmoron13
I'm doing a quick and simple illustration of a reinforced concrete beam with rebars. I modeled it quickly, applied some textures, set the lights, set vray FREE, and hit render, but I keep getting this wierd result. The top row of rebars are shifted downwards a considerable amount, and likewise, the camera angle is distorted , hiding the top of the concrete beam. I tried adding a camera (top figure) and it had the same result. Anyone have a clue? -doron
nichchris
Hey schmo.. I don't think the rebar has moved.. I think your concrete post or beam has gained a few inches! or pounds.. whatever .. its gotta be vray! nichchris
xgarcia
Make sure you didnt accidentally keyframe the rebars to move and are rendering the wrong frame. Only thing I can think of. Xavier
nichchris
Ok.. you force me to make my point! Here is a super-imposed image of both and you can clearly see that it is not the re-bar that has moved but the block that has changed in height! All the bars are in the right place.. the perspective is right, the width of the block is right, I will guess that the length is also right... As for what is wrong I could'nt tell you ..One thing is for sure if you are looking at the rebars and not finding the problem you won't!, start looking at the beam it has the problem! Make sure to collapse all modifiers.. before rendering.. and make sure you have not touched on something weird in the material editor, especially if you used vray specifiec materials. nichchris [ July 14, 2003, 06:52 PM: Message edited by: nichchris ]

Often the hardest thing about solving a computer problem is figuring out what is REALLY having a problem. It's often not the most obvious thing. This is where years of experience shows. schmoron13
thanks everyone for the info. I checked everything and I still can't figure it out. I have vray Free so it doesn't have vray specific materials, and there aren't any modifiers (just a plain ole box that's 20'x12'x24.5". I just opened the file and guess what I saw clicked in the material editor? A FREAKING DENT MAP set at 25 in the displacement modifier!!! You think that might have contributed to the problem?! :angenone: Here's the (up to now) final illustration. My boss is coming back today from a week in New Zealand so I'll let you know how it turns out. Once again, Y'all are life savers!!!!
