Golden goldy gold

Hello all,

I am having some problems achieving a rich gold in one of my renders. I am trying to mimic the effect on the picture 'A' where dispite the object being placed on a white reflective floor, it reflects the floor as a dark floor; getting darker as it fades away.

My attempt using hdri lighting 'B' and a gold taken from vray materials just reflects the floor almost as it is and doesn't look that convincing.

I presume as I am using a hdri to light up the scene, that the reflections will appear bright as the whole scene is lit up. I was thinking about just having a dark scene then placing a vray light above the sphere, and in doing so, it may make the reflection show more of the fading of the light on the floor?

Does anybody have any ideas of how I can achieve this?

Thanks in advance

Marc

I guess the quickest and easiest way would be to render two passes and comp them.

Pass #1: Render objects with HDRi and dark floor,

Pass #2: render white floor, shadows, ambient occlusion with objects masked.

There's a couple of ways yu could do this, but that's the principle at least. ;)
