Derek Forreal
i'm trying to create a material that fades as it gets closer to the centre (much like a radial gradient) but i would like it to follow a given shape. my attached attempt at creating the effect is a bit naff but should show what i need to achieve. is there a particular gradient that will give me this effect? TIA
Spooner04
You might be able to use a standard procedural map in max in the opacity slot. You probably need to make a transparency map for the material. Just make a jpeg in photoshop.
cgrant3d
I think what would be perfect is the free "GradientEdge" plugin which creates a procedural gradient with falloff to the edges of geometry. I use it periodically and it definitely beats having to create a custom map everytime! http://www.vg2max.spb.ru/download.html Chris

Spooner, this is something that i would need to repeat for different objects, so i'm looking for a way to 'automate' the procedure
