3darchitect
I'm a student using Revit in my studio projects. I use it because it makes all my CD very nicely and also gives me a fairly good 3d model. Since I'm doing both the rendering and the designing on my projects, its very convenient that way. However, I'm having trouble importing the Revit model into 3ds. Right now, I don't bother with any materials in Revit and leave everything as plain as I can, and apply Vray materials in 3ds. Does this sound like a bad way to do it? Feedback on that would be nice. My problem comes with the model itself going into 3ds. DWG imports nicely, but all the "walls" are stuck on one "layer" and when I apply a material to one wall, it affects all the other walls in the model - I haven't been able to figure out how to separate them so I can apply materials by entity. I've fiddled with the import/export options too but nothing yet. FBX lets me get everything by entity, but now everything is grossly triangulated. I've tried looking at other threads about this, but most everyone is concered with material imports and such, which (at this point) I'm not worried about. kris McIsaac
Apply different materials in Revit. When you import the DWG to MAX you can substitute a VRAY material for every Revit material. You dont have to get tricky with the Revit materials. I sometimes make my Revit materials bright contrasting colours so they are easy to spot in MAX.
