Dan83
Hi, I'm new here, this is my first real attempt at an architectural model, having made a test model previously. I have usually focussed on other aspects of 3D modelling. I'm pretty pleased with it but when I render using advanced lighting I get this strange shading on the main hall at the front of the building. The poly's are flat but it appears as if they are not, the anomaly only appears when I render using advanced lighting. I haven't spent a huge amount of time setting up the lighting, just used a skylight and fiddled with the settings a little. My system is struggling to cope with the size of the scene and I therefore just wanted a few good shots of my model so far, while I wait until I can afford a better system to use a more render intensive set up. Does anyone have any idea whats causing it? Thanks, Dan
Horhe
Are your floors and walls outward faces overlapping with each other?
Brian Smith
any particular reason that you're using the very outdated light tracer over mental ray or some other advanced renderer?
quizzy
ahhhh.. good old light tracer.. Those artifacts you are seeing are propably caused by too much undersampling, try starting at 8x8 or even 4x4
Dan83
Thanks for your replies. There's not really any reason for using the outdated renderer, it seemed to be a little faster than mental ray on my lowly system that's all. There are definately no overlapping faces, here's a closer shot where the artifacts are no longer there. I'll try adjusting the undersampling.
