how should 3dsmax know what normal is flipped correctly and what normal is flipped wrongly?? not really doable, you can try the unify normal option.

 

as for the double faces, there is a script, Bobo wrote one ages ago, and now Richard Annema of Splutterfish re-wrote that one and that comes with Brazil Renderer v2, so all you have to do is install Brazil RIO learning edition, and the script is there...
