roads and terrain

I've searched the forums and found a little bit on the topic but not enough for me to get my thick head around.

I've generated a terrain mesh and have been trying to use shapemerge in order to create the roads but with no sucess as yet.

Does anyone here know a smart way to add roads or a link to a decent tute ?

cheers

I always have had the same probs in the past but i found a cool pulgin on the web from itoosoftware called glue, goto itoosoftware on the web and download,it's good for doing roads but the one prob i found is that when you try to apply a shader to your new road the uvw cordinates don't follow the road surface.glue is also good for applying streetlights to your terain and so on.

You can also create the road as a 3d object and use conform instead.

I also don't know how to solve some shapemerge problem so far, but most of my shapemerge objects are 90% without any problem.

1. Try to avoid using editable poly or convert to editable poly and use editmesh or editable mesh instead after you have merged a shape. Editable poly may sometimes produce unknown faces that I also don't know how come :confused:

2. be careful about top and bottom of shape before merging as it may appear on a wrong surface or otherside of the surface. So use rotate or mirror the shape again if there is no shape merged on the object.

If your problem is not in the 2 cases, please let me have a look on your file or at least post the pic here.

I have another way to avoid shape merge and unwanted vertex by using connect in editable poly and this may helps you. Please follow the link below
