we use it at our office to aid our techncial support team, people phone up with a problem, we log into there computer (with their permission) and fix it for them while they watch

but . . .

for personal use i'm sure there will be other options other than using a pay for service

couldn't you just a NAS drive?? at least that way its yours forever or until you don't want it, it isn't a constant expense, it doubles up as a storage device, you know what data is being transferred rather than using some central hub in the US

just a few pro's but hey i'm not an expert, and i could be wrong, just my 2cents

Confused:confused: What does as NAS (Network Attached Storage) drive have to do with remote server/workstation access?

I've used a few of these services and they all pretty much work the same. A few features differ, but for all intents they are the same. Here are some options:

Remote Desktop: It's built into windows and is Free. I use this most of the time, but it does tend to glitch sometimes and lock me out.

LogMeIn: (www.logmein.com) There is a Free version for personal and home use. I use this at home to fix my Remote Desktop access when it screws up.

GoToMyPC: (www.GoToMyPC.com) We use the enterprise version of this via the GoToMeeting/Webinar application and it works great. No complaints.

WebExPCNow: (www.webex.com) I've never used this, but I have used their meeting applications and I've found them to be pretty feature rich, although expensive. Not sure how their remote access app compares.

I use LogMeIn to check renderings and such from my home pc to my work computer. This is all I really use it for so I have no need for a more advanced service. I like the fact that it's free. If I need to transfer data I just upload it to our ftp
