I think it's horrible news for anybody modeling, painting, designing, animating or simulating this world in the 3D. This goes for Gamers, FX specialist, effect maisters. I thinks motto of Autodesk is one less more to go. XSI is amazing overall package, albeit a horrible lincencing scheme in the earlier vesrion but otherwise amazing plus tons of other great software. Clearly, they had amazing corporate culture when they managed to create and maintain this product together with CAT, Robo-face with only 90 people. Yes, 90 people. Now, with coming of ICE they clearly left competition in the dust. Their scripting language is one of the most powerfull and the easiest. I know this program was not used much for visualisation or effects in CG Archi-Viz industry but in the design arena has enormous potential with coming (saw presentation) of ICE, an amazing explorative (effect too) tool. I wish all the best to MODO, Ligtwave (please do not fight with MODO-ers and vice versa), Cinema 4D (although their attitude sucks) and the rest of the competition because free world just has gotten a whole lot smaller. Thanks god for Truescape and Blender. I hope they develop faster. Just a reminder: Since Autodesk acquired Maya & Alias Studio everything has gotten a whole lot slower in the develpment area while prices kept climbing. This is especially true in the academic part. Where was Adobe? Why didn;t they picke up the XSI tab. Damn, I will resist AutoDesk to the last option. They are makers of the most absurdly expensive 2D drafting program AutoCad which never really improved over the past decade. I do not even know why they call it 3D. It's dated.:eek:
