hi. i'm trying to use vray dirt to add realism to my scene but no matter what settings i use there's no sign of the vray dirt effect in any if my renders. i've tried vray dirt as the main diffuse material and also in a vray blend material but with no joy. would somebody be kind enough to post a simple scene with a vray dirt material that they know to work and i'll see if i can get it to work on my pc please. thanks for your help.

Have you verified the dirt effect radius? It should be in scene units.

edit--> oops, just noticed that kippu mentioned that above. sorry

Also, if your objects have been scaled up or down, the VrayDirt may not correctly interpret each object's true size in world coordinates.

Vray online docs/examples might help:

thanks guys. i had tried all your advice before i originally posted the thread. i did everything as per spot3d.com help and any vray dirt tutorials i found on the net. anyway, i'm back in the office now, the problem was on my home pc, and vray dirt on this office pc works fine using the same 3ds max design, vray 1.50 sp 2 and dongle as i use on the home pc. so i'll bring a file home this evening with the dirt working and see if it works at home. thanks again for your help.

i never found a solution zewanil. i just avoided using the vray dirt on that project and the next time i used it, some months later, it worked fine - using the same max template. if i get a chance i'll track back and see if it works on that old project now.

what type of scene are you trying to use the dirt map on?

you have to make sure you're not using the same colour for occluded and unoccluded, also check the scale you're using. If the scene is only 1m across and you're using the default radius of 10m, you're not going to see any effects.
