Lofted object not showing when rendered or xrefed

I have created a road by lofting a line as a shape along another line as a path. I added an unwarp UVW modifier to apply a texture.

 

Then I converted it to an editable mesh. It looks fine in its own drawing. (See image 1).

 

If I render the scene the road does not appear. If I xref or merge the road into another scene it does not appear. All I get a 3 lines. See image 2.

 

Does anybody know what is happening ? How can I get this road to work correctly.

Did it look 'right' before you collapsed the stack?

 

Sounds like flipped normals to me, too.

 

Try repeating and instead of collapsing the stack just chuck an Editable Poly modifer on top of the stack. It has the same effect and you can go fiddle with the lower levels of the stack (path and shape splines) if you need to.
