innerdream
I'm getting the jaggies. How do I clear that up? The demo only outputs at 640x400 and I have set it to 300 dpi. Anyone?
AJLynn
Getting better. The jaggies are because antialiasing is in 'geometry' mode by default. This does AA on edges but nothing else and not in raytraces (through glass or in reflection). You need 'best' mode (slower). If you get more advanced you can use compositing tags to do AA settings per object. Btw the dpi doesn't affect the demo limit. One cheesy thing you can do is maximize the viewport, use control-r to render, and screen cap that.
innerdream
Oh! I didn't even see that. This is a much deeper program than Cheetah3D, it's going to take a bit. I like the quality of the renders but I'm still leaning towards Modo for a purchase. I wish the demo had a material library...
AJLynn
There are places to get things like that. One of my go-to sites for C4D stuff is c4dcafe.com - they have a Downloads section with some materials, which isn't nearly as complete as something like that Vray materials site but it's a starting point. The materials system is one of my favorite things about C4D. It's got several really good procedurals (you can do a lot with the noise and tile ones) and the Layer system for them is very nice. Which isn't to say that Modo isn't also really nice, and there are some things about it that I'd say are nicer and no reason not to go with it unless you want to do more advanced animation than Modo allows. (The Tutorials section of c4dcafe is full of information on animation features.) I find C4D really powerful and intuitive for a lot of animation features. innerdream
Thanks for the tip. I guess the thing I liked about Modo is within a few hours I produced a really nice render. It is fast and intuitive and I would say not as deep as C4D. I guess once the learning curve has passed it won't matter anymore and it will come down to other features, render speed, stability etc. Anyhow, we'll see where I am at the end of the trial in a month or so. innerdream
Still getting the jaggies in the glass. Is it because I have the fresnel (refraction?) on? Thanks. PS, Render time went through the roof on "best."
AJLynn
Yeah, the thing about "best" is it increases the sampling on all pixels, not just edges. Some things to try: -Try the Catmull AA filter instead of Still Image -When you turn on "best" AA you can also turn down glossy samples, if you were already happy with the glossies - the lower samples of the glossy shader will offset the higher samples of the image sampler. CHE
Oh! I didn't even see that. This is a much deeper program than Cheetah3D, it's going to take a bit. I like the quality of the renders but I'm still leaning towards Modo for a purchase. I wish the demo had a material library... There is a free material preset library for Modo. It was donated by Yazan Malkosh from Null Studios. You can download it from here: http://www.vertexmonkey.com/presets_collections.php You should be able to use these shaders as templates to create your own material set ups. I hope it helps.
