nisus
Hi all, Does anyone knows how - if possible at all of course - to setup different properties for seperate sub-objects from ONE object? Basicly I want a many faces from one single object to be able to cast a shadow and just a few NOT to cast any shadow at all... Any thoughts? rgds nisus
STRAT
never heard of that before. only thing i can think of is to detatch these faces to make separate objects, change the properties, then just group them to their parents.
plastic
i'm pretty sure that you can't assign object properties to subobjects. why not detach?
nisus
Hi Strat, Reattaching destroys the properties settings. Grouping is impossible as I need those objects for a database that runs with sole objects only... rgds nisus
STRAT
clever use of alpha mapping?
nisus
impossible too, because if you map opacity to a plane a shadow map will still shade the whole plane instead of it's alpha...
quizzy
Well nisus, Actualy a group is a single object with some children (the actual objects) I don't know if you are making a maxscript driven database or whatever... tell us..
AHaidar
You can do selective raytraced shadow casting with Blur's Utility Material.
nisus
Tnx all. Quizzy: I made several scripts like that over 1.5 years ago allready I was just adding new, advanced models to the library that needed different properties... rgds nisus
