CEJ
Hi Can anyone explain to me how I would set up various grids at various angles to assist me when I am modelling a building which is not at 90 degrees? Thanks
David Barbarash
You can create a grid material in a paint program, and map that to a plane, having it show the material in the viewport and controling the grid size throuigh UVW mapping. Or you can just create a base line to use as a reference and model off of that. But if you have access to a CAD program, I reccomend doing your floor plan in there, importing the lines into 3DS Max, and modeling from there using the plan for snap lines. There are a ton of ways to accomplish what I think you want to do, but if you're going for absolute accuracy, I think teh CAD way will work the best for you. kid
Create a grid object (in Helpers from memory) then rotate that grid to the angle you want. Then right click it and choose Active Grid in the Quad menu (from memory). Your Gizmo should now be aligned to that grid instead.
xgarcia
For working grids jsut create grid object as Kid states. For quickie stuff turn on autogrid (depends what version of max/ viz you use as to where it is). In MAX 5 the autogrid is in the create tab (right above box, plane.....) You can swtich between grid objects and the home grid (I guess global grid). Real time saver. -edit-- Forgot to add...all this information is covered in the manual. Just search it and you will find fine explanations, with some pictures most likely.
