frankg813
Hi All, Great forum and site. I'm new to this realm, but really excited about learning. I'm debating whether or not to take an Art class with hopes that it may help my Viz skills. I've worked with cad engines before, but I don't consider myself a wizard yet. I'm book learning sketchup right now. I need some guidance on creating a good solid educational foundation. What do you all suggest? Is the art class a good idea? Frosty
YES! A solid grounding in art is essential.
Jeff Mottle
I would say definetly and I would also suggest photography as another art to explore that will help your visualization skills.
frankg813
Thanks so much for your replies. So which is the best way software-wise to quickly get up to speed? I noticed some online offerings, DVD's. As I mentioned I'm currently book-learning Sketchup, Acad. I just want to know the most cost and time effective. Also I've been looking at these forums for which 3d package (given cost and ease of use). Found some preferences to Rhino/Quest, but don't know much about these packages (cost, user friendliness etc.). What other factors should I be looking at? I also am cautious about spending a bunch of time with learning a package only for it to be insufficient or becoming a dead end product. These are my concerns. Jeff Mottle
Whichever package you to select, you'll find 3dsmax and the v-ray or mental ray rendering engines (the latter is built into max) are the most commonly used in arch viz.

No need to worry yourself about whichever you choose becoming obsolete. 3D programs are probably more alike than not. Hopefully, AutoDesk will own them all soon.... The real artistry is taking place in your head, so use whatever you can get your hands on the quickest and start creating. You will need to learn about 10 or so apps/plug-ins whether you realize it now or not. Have fun above all...
