andreg
I wonder if anyone has this problem. I am working in max9 with DirectX enabled and my perspective viewport keeps going overbright. I can't see the vertexes anymore, the only solution I found was to press Ctrl+L a few times to turn off the default lights. The default lights are also off in the render options. What is doing that? I should mention also that my graphics drivers are up to date.
BrianKitts
The render options don't affect your viewport, the solution is better fixed in the viewport config.... from the file menu select Views > Viewport Configuration. and in the right column, turn on Default Lighting, I find that 2 lights works the best. This is basically what you were doing with Ctrl-L, only adding the second light helps more. you may notice that this setting is independent for every one of your viewports so unless you fix it in all of them you'll still get overbright viewports till you correct the solution in each viewport. SandmanNinja
What Brain said. Once you drop a light in the scene, max wants to use it to light the scene (redundant but true). Control L toggles between default viewport lighting and the lighting in the scene. Two examples: I was building a room and I put a 60-watt light in the closet. Whole viewport went black. Why? The single light globe was too small to light the whole scene. I was working on an exterior and I put the sun in the scene. Whole viewport went white. Why? Light source was too strong in the scene. Control L affects only one viewport at a time. So, if you hit control L in perspective, the other viewports will still be too bright/dark. Putting some exposure control in the scene fixed my overly bright exteriors.
