Multiple Camera Renders?

Hi Ernest,

I guess not. I looked all over the place for the ability, then looked all over for an existing Maxscript that did what I wanted. I ended up writing my own.

Another thing I miss about Lightscape (let's not go there today) is "list of views" in the Frame Generation section of the Rendering dialog.

Hi,

I highly recommend setting up and using backburner, even for single computer setups, because it not only allows you to queue and render different views of the same scene, but any number of different scenes, too. You do need TCP/IP set up on your machine, which should be there if you have an Internet connection.

It's an 'essential' tool for me. :)

The keyframe method is, IMHO, too messy. I mean, it's another thing to cause you troubles, cuz there's a chance you may animate objects in your scene without noticing. Using Video Post you can easily create a list of visible and not-visible cameras and render them to different files in no time. Clean and easy.

Hi Yasser and Rick,

I'm new to Max, coming from VIZ4, so I had naive ideas about what Video Post could be used for. We don't have anything like that in VIZ, hence the script. But I agree with Marc and Jennifer that learning to do network rendering is important. I kind of lost interest when it wouldn't accept my subnet mask, which I'm sure was something dumb I was doing.

I have a question for those who use both methods. Do they handle auto-oriented Forest objects? I can't test it with Max just yet. Seemed like in VIZ, unless the view was physically changed, the planes wouldn't auto-orient.

Thanks for any info, and sorry I wasn't more help Daniel. redface2.gif

Hi Fran and Daniel,

I just gotta say you have to get that net rendering thing going. It shouldn't be that hard, and it's so rewarding to be able to use it. I've done all the other methods... animating a camera, video post, and believe me, net rendering is a godsend, even if you have a single machine. If anyone here is having trouble with it, let me know and I'll try to help you out in getting it set up.

p.s. Video Post in Max is a holdover from the days of 3d Studio DOS version. It's really just a legacy feature, nothing has changed in the code for many years, although it can be useful sometimes. The only thing I've used it for in the last 5 years is to render an animation that's been created in "real time" in super slow motion... its quite handy for things like that.

Thanks so much guys. Fran you are a star with that script. I will definatly be putting it to use. You see I modle and build all day at work then its nice to set off rendering knowing your going to get all your views with pis**ing around with little variables. I am currently building a second machine with cheap parts and I am going to get into network rendering. Thanks Guys

Fran, Just tried the Script. Looks ace. I cant get to actually render my cameras. Also it wont let me name my file before I begin. Can you give me some instructions if you have time? Is this ok in Studio Max 5 or is it native to Viz.

Excellent script cant wait to get using it!!

By the way! Your renders on the site are purely awesom!!

Have a look everyone! http://www.surrealstructures.com/index.shtml

Hi Daniel,

It has been tested in Max and it worked the same way as in VIZ. If you place the script in your script/startup folder, it will load automatically the next time you start Max.

When you open Maxscript from the Utilities panel, is "Render Visible Cameras" available in the dropdown list? If so, select it. Be sure to scroll down so that you can see all the options. Provided you have gotten this far, there is a button just below the Render Cameras button that says "Set image and folder name." What happens when you click that button? You should be getting a standard Save File dialog. The name you enter will be the prefix portion of the filename. The script will either add the camera name or a sequential number to that, depending on your preference.

By default, the images don't render to the Virtual Frame Buffer. There are instructions for changing that in the comments section of the script file. Also, the comments don't mention it, but it generates a log file that documents the render time (in seconds) for each image. The file is named according to what you have input in the Save File dialog.

Thanks for the compliments and I hope this helps. I looked into Video Post last night and it did what I needed. Since I have 6 processors available on my network, I should really get net rendering happening. :)

Good luck with your renders.

Hi,

I just wondering, is it possible to render two scene in the same time, in one computer using the network rendering. cause it happened to me some time ago, that I have to render about 20 images, it's a small image size, (for power point usage) I just want to safe timing in rendering and safe my time as well,

what I did last time was I open 2 max in 1 computer, and render them in the same time, and I did the same thing at the other computer.but then after they finished rendering I need ti assign new job for them, is this can be done automatically with network rendering?

anybody ever come on this situation? thanks in advance
