Hi All,

I have been looking at some deconstructivists recently and their design process which is normally done ba computer modelling, but i wonder what software they use? I heard that Frank Gehry is using Catia, i wonder if anyone knows about the other ones like Zaha Hadid and Eisenman?

Rhinoceros is what Gehry used before he made Digital Project a program based on Catia.

Hadid uses Rhinoceros.

or should i say the people that work for use.

Architecture and engineering firms on the podium include HOK Sport, Buro Happold SMART Group, ARUP, and Zaha Hadid Architects. Representatives from each firm will present signature projects in which Rhino was a primary design tool.

It really depends on your production ecosystem. If you are already "on board" with 3DSMAX, I would "HIGHLY RECOMMEND" trying a very sophisticated plug-in and modelling platform from NPower Software called "Power Nurbs".

It provides parametric modelling with stack editting inside 3DSMAX. They also have Rhino version if you want to go there.

Good luck!

All three of these architects developed their design language before computers were commonly used for architecture. Zaha for example, was first recognized for her paintings. And Gehry's forms literally begin with crumpled up pieces of paper. Software is a tool to help build these forms, no different than a mayline.

I agree with Jack. The ability to see and interpret space in their own unique well is what these starchitects sell. Yes, some software will help them develop the design, or put the design on paper better than other pieces of software. All of the architects mentioned have a clear mental vision of what it is they are trying to create before anyone touches a piece of software.

funny i get back from lunch and i have this mail:

The new release of PanelingTools plugin for Rhino 4.0 SR4 is now available for download from:

http://en.wiki.mcneel.com/default.aspx/McNeel/PanelingTools.html

New in this release:

----------------------------

- Fixed divide surface by direct distance bug for closed surfaces.

- Added the ability to select a base point to start dividing a surface from in ptGridSurfaceDirectDistance command.

- Added u & v optional parameters of base location to PT scripting functions "DivideSurfaceByDirectDistance" and "GridByDirectDistanceOnSurface".

- Added ptTriangulatePoints command to create a mesh using Delaunay Triangulation algorithm.

- Added ptGroupSimilarPanels that groups similar curves. It is based mainly on number of curves segments and their length. It also test area for planar curves.

- Added labeling for 3d custom panels.

- Fixed shift defaults values in 2D and 3D pattern managers.

- Fixed divide surface by distance preview bug.

- Added new animated short tutorials to the wiki page.

- Updated menu, toolbars and PT for monkey.

and here the Doha towers seem to implement good use of the uniform deformation tools
