carlos_7
Hi guys, Could you please tell me how make a shadow for a 2D tree. I am using a plane with an opacity map for the tree but my shadow comes up as a plane too, not as the tree shape. I am using MAX 5. And how to orient it so when not perpendicular to the camera but to the sun it won't show as al plane shadow Any other way different to using raytrace shadow? Thank you very muach

Hi Carlos, I'm not sure if I understand what you're asking about the plane being perpendicular. With Forest Pack, I clone the object and have it auto-orient to face the sun, but not be visible to the camera. You can do something similar with billboards if you don't have that plug-in. You must use raytraced shadows unless you are using Forest Pack - then you can use their special shadow type. Forest Lite is free from Itoo software, but it is really worthwhile (and cheap) to buy Forest Pack Pro. I hope I have answered your questions. carlos_7
Thank you Fran, I am going to try the Forest Pack Lite as you recommended me. I visited your website and you have some beatiful renders there. What rendering engine do you use for that? Thank you again.
pablo scapi
Yep, the key is to use ray traced shadows, because shadow map do not rcognice transparency (opacity map)
