Frosty
For those looking for the dual i7s I believe Apple is already shipping them. As I too am in the market, I've been looking to Boxx and Dell for their entry but have seen nothing yet.

AJLynn
It's neat that it can go in an ATX case but it still requires Xeon CPUs, what's with the memory slot layout, and how in 2009 can you market a board to the enthusiast segment without dual PCIE-x16 slots?? Kudos to Asus for getting FOURTEEN SATA ports in there but aside from that... well, obviously it's not easy to put dual sockets on an ATX board. Slinger
That was most likely done using a liquid cooling rig. It's a pretty advanced technique.Actually no. 4ghz on a Q9550 and i7 920 on air are very easily done these days. My Q9550 is at 4ghz(471x8.5) cooled from a Tuniq Tower. i have heard the i7 can do 4 ghz on air cooling alone , not for all the time , just probably benching for a while I would not try that. You guys need to go checkout http://www.xtremesystems.org ---well when they finish updating the server. 4ghz on air is pretty easy these days. Frosty
Well jeepers! Rene has been phoning me every other day to buy a system and he knows I want a dual i7! Why hasn't he mentioned it?

Yeah, I still say there's a big difference between what's appropriate to do on a gaming PC and what's appropriate to do on a business PC. If the gaming PC goes awry the worst that happens is the gamer ends up getting some sunlight on the way to get new parts.

daniohayon
meh... not OC'able terrible memory slot configuration not great PCI-E slot layout Other than that, I guess it's an ok mainboard... There are many other choices that have come out since that board was announced last month... Adam BOXXlabs Are you referring to these? This is looking better and better. Those SATA plugs are finally pointing f*** up. Don't need tinker bell fingers to connect HDD's - took so long to come up with this, just like cap-on-the bottom ketchup...I think we've landed on the moon before that Edited March 31, 2009 by daniohayon
AJLynn
He was referring to the board that the previously linked article was about, which was a dual-Xeon ATX board with terrible memory slot and PCIE layouts. What you linked to are two real server boards. The 18 DIMM slot configuration is pretty freakin' impressive but all it means is that that idiot from before who makes his interns model every screw, rebar etc. before rendering and wonders why his computers can't cope will be posting things like "I made a model and attempted to render it on my 96GB system but it failed; I have sent a strongly worded email to Vlad, and I am upgrading to the 144GB motherboard but I would like somebody to tell me whether I can use 12 hard drives in Windows. Because I am much smarter than you, I request that you call me Doctor."
daniohayon
He was referring to the board that the previously linked article was about ...in the referral I meant the "many other choices" I couldn't find around. Heck, few days ago I could only find people wishing for these kinds of boards and suddenly there are many options to choose from. I guess I'm not on top of the information stream line... I like the configurations on these boards regardless. My last encounter with ASUS left some bad taste. The Z7S WS was a pain to get setup and turn on. These new boards look like someone actually put the old MB in a case and try to load it with stuff to realise "sh*t, we forgot that stuff actually has to fit in a case...let's not say anything about it...and ignore any calls...hell, they keep coming back anyway..." Any better MB options for the build-it-yourself journey you know of AJ?
