Craig Ramsay
Does anyone know if its possible to assign a material ID higher than 15 to a material in the material editor? The material editor only seems to allow IDs to be set 0-15, very frustrating!
Claudio Branch
I am using Max 9 (64x) and it just let me create a Multi/Sub-Object material with 1000 slots. Maybe your file is corrupt? Have you tried creating the material you want in a new scene?

I would like the to know the answer too, hence why Im chimming in. AND Id like to know how many different numbers of Object ID youre allowed. Claudio Branch
Oh, I see it now. Sorry 'bout that... I just looked through the User Reference and it seems to indicate that all you get is 15 channels for post effects.
Craig Ramsay
Hmmm I wonder why it's limited to 15, it would have been a much better idea if you could just type a number in there rather than have the silly pull out menu. Does anyone know if this is something that can be scripted or is it actually a limitation of Max?

The other half of that byte is probably being used for something else.
