navinkc
Hi I am working in 3DS max 2009 with V-ray 1.50 sp2 for rendering. i have problem with my workstation 6 months back office purchased new workstation for rendering purpose DELL with windows xp 64-bit DELL PRECISION T5400 Intel®Xeron® CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz 2.49GHz,4.00GB of RAM. with NVIDIA 1700 quadro Graphic card (DUAL) when i work with 3DS max I am getting display like this in the image attached. So we changed graphic card recently NVIDIA 4600 Quadro.but i am getting same display and same time for the test render i made with my previous graphic card and new one no change.it is taking test render time of 6 min and 17 sec. for both graphic card. so i checked same test rendering scene to my friend machine with HP HP XW6600 Intel ® Xeon ® CPU E 5430 @ 2.66 GHz 1.97 GHz 2.00GB RAM with NVIDIA quadro 3400/4400 and it is giving an output time of 3min 16 sec. DELL Technician checked and they said new driver is not updating the system so need to reinstall windows. still no improvement next suggestion they said is DELL is not compitable with 3DS MAX. does anyone having any problem like this please help...... Devin Johnston
First your video card has no impact on render times; your CPU is 100% responsible for how quickly your scene is processed and rendered. The video card is used when you are not rendering for things like orbiting and panning around your model. The more powerful the video card is the smoother you will be able to navigate around your scene. If your computer is running Windows then 3D Studio Max is compatible with it, if someone from DELL told you it wasn't get his name and try to get him fired for being an idiot. It looks to me like you're having a problem with your video card drivers, make sure you're system isn't trying to run an old version of the driver or a driver for a different card. I have the Quadro 1700 and I've never had a problem with it. Does your display always look like that or does it only do that at certain times? Devin Johnston
Computers are funny things, you can have two identical units but if one isn't configured correctly it can be much slower than its counterpart. I would call Dell and ask them to do some performance tests on your machine, or run some diagnostics to make sure it's running as fast as it should. If you keep having these problems you should think about sending it back to them and getting another one.
