postite
Hi all, I'm on a bridge project. I use a lot the sweep modifier. I create splines (create shape) from some edges of the brigde and I've never had problem with that. There are 5 different solutions that we have to show to the client. The problem, is that when I "create shape" frome some edges of the solution number 5, and I put the sweep modifier on the new spline created, the geometry is like 10 times too big. It happens just for this solution. I posted a screenshot. In blue, the size is good and it's a spline from solution number 1. When I copy/paste the sweep modifier on the spline from solution 5, I have what you can see in grey. I tried to export the spline in a new scene but with no result and it's not possible to use the bevel/profil in this case. And no result if I scale the profile by 10. PLZ help Thx ! Claudio Branch
You need to apply a "XForm" modifier to the section you are trying to Sweep. Modify the scale of the XForm Gizmo to get your section correct. I happen to be working on a very large bridge project too. I modeled portions of my bridge in AutoCAD using the Sweep command and now I am finishing it up in Max.
postite
Thank you !! It works fine now. In fact the screen I posted is just the side part of the bridge, for the "walking people" (I don't know the correct word in english). I work on the night render now. What do you thing about the lighting ? I will add more details later for high res render. Here is just to show to my boss
Claudio Branch
The night lighting is coming along very nicely as is the water. You should consider starting a post in the WIP forum for your project.
whori
i like the water:) how you are making it ?
postite
> Whori The water is just an A&D mat with the "Water reflective surface" preset. What makes this effect in the water is the lighting. Each time, one spot + one light for the reflect on the water. I post my water settings and a screen of my lighting. postite
I have another problem but this time with the "extrude" modifier. It's not the first time and never found any solutions. I have my spline, all vertices well welded, gizmo in the right place and all vertices with the same Z value. When I apply the extrude modifier, I have something strange. Totally flat, in a strange direction and no cap. If you have any idea....

Astuti
Try this link: http://www.tbmax.net/blog/_archives/2006/12/9/2561235.html Download the file, and watch the video. I had the same problem till i found it. Basically, it explains that you have to create a new shape to attach to the problematic one. Somehow, it "inherits" the properties. Then erase the extra edges. Excuse me for my english. And sorry for the "extra" posts. By the way, I like the night illumination, too. postite
Thanks for the link ! Cool website. It solved my problem. Another little question: Is it possible to copy/paste the gizmo orientation from one object to another ? So that I don't have to "re-orient" it for all new shapes. .
