new monitor with better color management and vertical viewing angles

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have an LG Flatron L222WS (lcd) monitor but I`m not satisfied with it so I want to buy another LCD with better specs.

I`m making a lot of photo&video adjustments and retouching and in the same time I`m doing a lot of desktop publishing so color management (both RGB and CMYK) is very important to me.

Now, what I don`t like at the actual LG LCD:

-vertical viewing angle - the brightness changes dramatically at viewing angles greater than 10-20°

-poor color management - just a few presets for temperature (k), and R,G,B sliders - from my tests is almost impossible to match the colors from my Sony VX2100 lcd (camcorder)

Another choice would be to make some color adjustments from the Nvidia panel. Anyway this won’t fix the vertical viewing angle problem.

Any advice or maybe some review sites like Cnet, Tomshardware - maybe more specialized in this field?

Best regards.

Mihai

That looks like a pretty low end monitor. It's a TN type display with analog input. What you want is an S-PVA type with digital (DVI, or DisplayPort if you've got it) input. There are a bunch of companies that make these, but you have to look pretty deep to find the info.

An S-PVA is more expensive than a TN but not price prohibitive for most people. The next step up would be one of the monitors marketed to professionals that have things like the percentage of the Adobe color gamut they cover in the marketing materials. These are price prohibitive for a lot of people.

I'm afraid that you won't be able to find something decent to fit that budget.

The closest would be Dell2007Wfp (with a samsung S-pva panel or an Lg S-ips panel) or a NEC Multisync 20WGX pro (with an S-ips panel). However, these are a bit smaller than 22 inches and just a little over your budget.

I would stay away from TN panels...
