Downtown Tower Vancouver

I have been working on this model on and off for a while now, but have not put too much time into it because of the frequency of revisions and changes... now without notice I am being asked to produce a few shots for a meeting with the city and neighborhood next wednesday.

Off topic, is everyone switching over to MR photo exposure? I find it a little tedious to set up sometimes for a good render and when I get these short dead-lines I always end up sticking with logarithmic exposure control...

keep it coming james.

i know what you mean about exposure control. i think i like the photographic exposure, but if you have multiple shots (interior and exterior) you have to remember to change all the settings.

i haven't been using it very long myself.

Yeah, I really like the photographic exposure control too, but I don't usually have time to play with the settings, render and adjust... I guess the best thing would be to dive in and start getting experience with it.

Just finished modelling the context for this model and setting up for a night shot... will post tomorrow when it is finished.

Judging by your sig, you'll get this and know that its a joke.

"Turn up the color! Make it better. Turn up the good, turn down the suck."

Man I love that movie! One of my friends in Grad School went to High School with Terry and Deaner.

As a serious comment tho, Is it possible in your software to save light rigs/render setting as saved scene? I say suggest this so that you could say move to the next frame and use a different light/render set up and have each frame be a completely different render.

I've done this in Cinema and FormZ and its very handy!

Funkin Tron...

haha, I have to watch that again soon! R.I.P. Farrel

max 2009 with Mr photographic exposure... jumping on the band-wagon! :D Posted both the image right out of max (MR) and the beginning of my painting over it...

This project got put on hold but I finished rendering the night shot requested anyways to get ahead of things. Just started to paint it up in photoshop and do the ussual post work... still lots to do but I will work on it slowly over the next few weeks and get ahead of the game.

c and c most appreciated!

james.

i think you need to really boost the lighting levels and the reflections, both in the building and the streetscape.

some motion and activity at the street level would really help too. maybe use a motion blur with the cars at least.

i know downtown vancouver can be boring, but it would really help sell the image.

the other thing i'm uncomfortable with is the composition.

i hate to say it, but i'm not sure which building is the focus ?

it's the one on the left, correct ?

Now that you mention it, and after looking at it today I think I need to re-think what is going on in the image and scrap it... will repost some new images tomorrow after done rendering... oh well, I think I will stick with some views from street level...

Anyways, had some free time tonight so I finished what I started, I hate leaving projects half finished... pulled it together as best I could using PS. If I find some more time I want to add some colour tone to the people.

I was thinking back to previous experiences and where as I have been told that the deadline is now middle of January... they will probably ask for it tomorrow. :p So at least I have something!

thx all for all the c and c...
