Matt Sugden
Can anyone identify what foliage is being used in the most part in this showreel? I really like the look of their work generally, but I'm particularly keen to know what type of tree/plant 3d models these are, as I don't currently have a good solution myself when it comes to animation. http://www.pixelbrick.net/showcase/showreel.html I notice they are using lots of similar instances of the same model some times, so I'm guessing they are using proxies. As a side note, if you're using lots of similar instances of vray proxies, can you scale them to get a bit of variety in foliage, without in essence undoing the benefits of using a proxy? cheers
dean@pikcells
im not sure what foliage they use, but we use treefarm trees, which are great for animations. as for your side note, you can scale, rotate, etc to give a more random feel to proxies. you can also apply different materials to proxies, so a simple way of mixing up your foliage is to simply alter the diffuse map (usually lighten or darken them), and randomly apply different materials to the same mesh.
