Conor Clancy
Hi, not sure is this the correct area to post this, but does anybody know anything about realtime 3D walkthroughs. A client of mine has aproached me about it, and I need to know is there a cost-effective method/application etc. It's one small 3 bedroom house. Nothing special. ddduuuu.com
There's a great free option, but it depends on what architecture program you're using. If you have Revit, you can export your model as a 3d DWF and load it into Navisworks Freedom (FREE from Autodesk). You click on the feet icon and start walking through your building. It's like playing a video game. Then there's Navisworks Review for $2000 that lets you create renderings and animations. You can make multiple types of slideshows, walkthroughs and more and save them out as avis or jpgs. You can export it or save the file as an NWD file which can be opened by Navisworks Freedom. I've never seen anything like it. It's the ultimate for easy visualization. Takes about 20 minutes to learn the basics. Navisworks can bring in many different 3d file types and the compression rate is incredible. Autodesk acquired them last year. A lot of contractors use it for Clash Detection and tie in their construction schedule and watch the building getting built. Go to the Autodesk website and find Navisworks to see more. Hope that helps. Hi, not sure is this the correct area to post this, but does anybody know anything about realtime 3D walkthroughs. d_mccreadie
I have used Cubicspace RTRE on a project for a public enquirey though it is probably a little bit expensive for doing a three bedroom house.

BOXXLABS
Autodesk will soon release a game engine plugin for REVIT and MAX that will let you move around your scene like a video game. The tecdhnology demonstration I saw last week supported HDRI, soft shadows and pre-calulated AO and FG lighting. I don't have an exact timeframe -but before spending big bucks on something like ARCHengine, I definitely would look into this or ask your local Autodesk rep. Dave Buchhofer
Thats probably this thing, they haven't released much detail about it in writing though. http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/newport/
tcorbett
It's one small 3 bedroom house. Nothing special. C Navisworks & Revit might be overkill for a small one-time project. Build or import your model into SketchUp, and set up your tabs to act as your path, or use the walk/look tool.
