Dave Buckley
I am about to set up a render farm for using a series of machines i have available to me at the office, however this will be for Max 7 and therefore an older version of Backburner. We need to set up the farm now using these versions. However, my question is, when i get the latest version Max Design 09, in a few weeks, will it be difficult to upgrade the Max and Backburner software to the render farm. Or is it simply a case of just installing the new software??
Dave Buchhofer
its just installing, but be sure to upgrade the MANAGER machine to the latest version of max that you are going to be sending jobs with, as theres a few strange problems that can pop up when using older 'manager' version and newer 'server' versions even though it will APPEAR to work fine in most cases

Chad Warner
to be safe, you should un-install the manager completely before installing the new version.
dpcaltdcah
also, like chad said about the manager, when you upgrade you have to completely un-install the existing version of backburner on your servers before you install the new one, you can't just install the new one over the old we had all kinds of problems with that. also make sure you do the design 2009 service pack 1, if you don't you will probably have problems with network rendering.
