junglistikat
I'm having massive problems finding free material libraries for v-ray (it would be a great help, I'm a student and don't have much time to spend on making them myself, along with the constantly broke factor). I can make materials in Vray myself, but in order to get the m to turn out to the level I want them, I would have to give up hope on ever getting my assignments in on time. right now I am designing an exhibit project that has a large opaque inflatable element, and I have no clue as to how to go about and render that material. I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me (other than the advice at my review to blow up condoms and photograph them to manipulate in photoshop )

Dave Buchhofer
take a look into the 2 sided material also.. (And the examples page) you may have better luck with that for the 'inflatable' translucency than with the mess you may find on vraymaterials.de
Dave Oliver
i wouldnt think an inflatable material would be that hard to set up.... usually those materials from the libraries dont really look like i expect so i do my own anyways i mean, translucency + solid color + fabric bump + 2 sided should give you a pretty good start
junglistikat
where in the vray material editor would I set up 2 sided? I ended up creating the material manually instead of using that site (it is just good for bumps and bitmaps... as far as i can figure out), check out these renders:
Dave Oliver
it doesnt look fabric really at the moment 1- the reflectivity is too clear... with fabric (like maybe nylon), you would get some specular reflection, but it would be from the sheen for the material and you would see the texture so maybe you could exaggerate the bump map 2- i forget where 2 sided is i think its in the refraction section? 3- you could make little seams in the geometry using chamfer or extrude, take the left over rectangles of polygons, apply edit poly modifiers to them and bulge them out using a 3x3x3 ffd modifier to make it look like they are trying to push away from the seams
