Hello,

I´m having a problem with the Vray Distribute rendering.

Im using:

Quadcore 2.14 (4gb ram)

DualCore 3.0 (4gb ram)

DualCore 3.0 (2gb ram)

DualCore 3.0 (1GB ram)

When i send the render in a 4gb ram machine, the other 4gb ram machine are the only one that respond. in other cases, none of the 2 gb ram or 1 gb ram machine respond...

when i send the render in a 2 or 1gb ram machine, the only ones that still respond are de 4gb ram machine...

Any idea?

Sorry for my bud english...

You dont have displacement or other things that use too much memory? If the render need 3GB only 4GB nodes will work.

Ofcourse you can test this with a simple clean teapot setup.

I have mixed 1, 2 and 4GB nodes in my setup. Also 32 and 64 bit mix, work fine. But when using displacement and similar the 1GB node use to crap out.

You have license for all 10 cores I guess? Vray DR is up to 10 cores pr license if I dont remember wrong. And you should also have same version of vray including sp, and 3ds max including sp. And all external plugins in question should be installed on all nodes I guess.

You get any error from the message window?

Are all of them runing the same versions/updates of max and vray?

Yes. All the PCs have 3Dmax 2009 32bit with Vray adv. 150SP2 x86.

2 PCs have another plugins but they are not running and the file that i want to render doesnt use them. i think that its not an issue.

Today i did a test. All the PCs worked, but later they crushed. even the 1gb PCs. (the file consume 1,15 to 2.3 GB of Ram)

The same ocurre with simple scenes when the ram goes to 0.6 to 0.8.

how the licenses work using the cores?

No error message appear.

THANKS!

backburner for vray dr? there is a own vray dr spawner. I once had problem with registering vray spawner failed, so I have to start them by hand on every reboot.

"So Im not using the vray dr service, but the app". so I have the vraydr icon in my taskbar, and a running 3dsmax dummy scene in my programbar.

You do need a proper setup of backburner for DR to work.

For the post related problem:

- Have you tried to send a simple scene, via Backburner, to thoses machines. If a regular network job does not go through, DR will not work.

- Verify the licence path of the slaves

- Firewall and network permissions

- 3gb switch installed on all of them ( I assume it is 32 bits)

- Crank up the virtual memory.

- IP is fixed? if you are sending a job to a specific IP, and the server manages them, can lead to problems.

- What version of max are you on? if you are on Max9, copy the Vraydummy90.xml and the Vraydummy90.max from a machine that works from to a machine that is not. Max 9 / Viz 2008 had some issues with that. ( **I read you have max2009, but this could be usefull to other users having similar problems**)

- Make DR work in normal mode before using it as a service, if that is the case. It will allow you to see what's going on.
