Hardware Quotes from Dell and Boxx

Recommended Posts

I received two quotes for a new system today... not really sure which I should go with...

Dell Precision T7400

XP-64

Dual 2.5GHz Xeon Quads

16Gb DDR2 RAM

Nvidia Quadro FX 3700 (512Mb)

(2) 250Gb HD's 7200rpm SATA

950W Power Supply

$4,500.00

Boxx

XP-64

3.2GHz Core i7-965 Extreme Quad

6Gb DDR3 RAM

Nvidia Quadro FX 3700 (512Mb)

(2) 250 Gb HD's 7200rpm SATA

700W Power Supply

$4,942.00

Would appreciate any suggestions in making this decision

that i really dont know, and would like to find out! if you do find any useful benchmarks please post them up!

I opted for the dual xeon mostly because of lack of time to really research the new i7. and the last time I didn't do research I ended up with my dual athlon when the new core 2's were coming out! :\

Ps, If you do go Boxx, and talk to Gerrie Schwartz, give her a shout out, who knows, maybe a referral type thing could help us both in our buyings! ;)

I've been working with Rich Petit... Great guy, very knowledgeable and doesn't try to sell you things you don't need. So far it's been a great experience working with them.

We made the decision to go with Boxx. The only thing that was really holding me back was the difference in RAM. It seems it's a wiser decision to go with better quality RAM now, and have the ability to add more if I need it down the road.

Another great benefit of going through them is what seems like great cutomer support. I love that, if we have a problem, I'll be able to contact Rich directly and not have to go through a different rep on every occasion.

Yea, they're pretty solid for customer service, been using them off and on for ~7 years, and only switched reps because the previous guy left the company lol.

and If you need something, you just call.. they'll drop ship overnight you anything you need. hard to beat asking for ram, having it show up the next day, and then sending the bad ram back. Heh.
