Peter M. Gruhn
Does sticking, say, a chair leg through the floor cause any harm? The answer may seem to depend on the renderer and only for GI solutions. Radiosity won't like it, less with adaptive, I forget about photon tracing. Mental seems better at it but I'm not fully convinced, but maybe it's something else. Are there other issues I'm not aware of "Oh yeah, when ever geometry interpenetrates the frobulator halves its efficiency. For each object. Mulitplicitavely." Visually the results are fine and my understanding of how stuff works is that it shouldn't be a problem. I'm not yet fully sure that sticking a chair leg through the ceiling out into the sun is not a problem.

Justin Hunt
The big problem is co-planar faces, two or more faces occupying the same space. jhv
Macer
I've often wondered about this too. Even if you are getting visually correct results, are the calculation times increased?
