3D Finding Work In London

I thought I'd tag into this thread as I'm just waiting to move into London (from Surrey).

My last full time job was working out in Spain as a Lighting Artist for a feature length animated film but I'm looking to perhaps shift into visualisation. Most probably starting off a junior for a while until I'm up to speed with the others.

I'll look back through this thread for tips anyway but I know this isn't the best time looking for any kind of work at the moment...I've got to give it a shot though.

Any more tips would be really helpful !

Good luck. Do you have a job lined up or just moving to the big smoke with fingers crossed?

Fingers and everything else crossed.

I didn't exactly pick the most budget place either.

So this is a seriously risky gamble but I've got to try.

Hey mate,

I am in the same boat as you are- looking for 3d Architectural job in London. For the past 3-4 months I've been applying quite a lot, sending CVs, portfolios, registering with different agencies, contacting directly employers. So far- nothing, but this is mainly due to my complete lack of knowledge in AutoCad (which I am learning now).

Most of the job offers require 3DS Max ( only sometimes Cinema 4D), AutoCad and Photoshop/ Illustrator.

Luckily not many job offers require you to have a degree relevant to the job (luckily in my case since I studied IST here, not 3D). Most of the job offers require you to have a minimum of 1 year (2 years preferable) experience in a company.

So far I have noticed 2 or 3 short periods with no 3D visualiser job postings- I guess there is some "seasonal" aspect to it.

The websites I have most luck with (in terms of job listings) are so far:

1. http://jobs.trovit.co.uk

2. http://uk.jobrapido.com/

Sometimes even Gumtree can be helpful. I've seen 3-4 decent 3D Vis job postings there.

Lots of luck and keep your head up. It will happen.

Julian.
