johnnlo
where would i start? im trying in rhino and 3ds max, the angels are driving me crazy.........thanks for the help!
Claudio Branch
Just model one of the base units and then create instances to rotate and move into a desired final assembly. Don't try to model this as one object!
Claudio Branch
the angles are driving me crazy... The basic unit is an equilateral triangle and that means every time you connect one, the next one will have to be rotated 60 degrees in at least one plane. Exactly. Using angle snap and an initial pivot adjust you should be able to array them in to place in no time. with the right array settings, you should be able to complete a whole set with one press of the button. I'd give it a go to show you what i mean, but am pressed for time now.
Sketchrender
We are being asked more and more to model this type of structure, maybe not as complex as this, but organic shapes that Zaha Hadid would work up. We use max, but this is pushing us towards, thinking of moving to Microstation, and working directly in 3D and taking the drawings off the models and the Generative Component software that they have developed which is free with Bentley select. Interesting times for us, but a serious amount of thinking involved, and a much slower work flow. Anybody else in this situation? Phil
Frosty
I've been exploring iterative 3D geometry for a few weeks now - specifically for modeling 3D fractals. I'm not exactly sure what that means yet - what it looks like or how to create it. Maybe its time to start a PhD. So far I'm toying in C4D with Xfrog, Jenna and MoGraph. Dave Buckley
it isn't actually that difficult, i mean, my modelling skills are awful, the weakest part of my skillset, yet i managed to knock this up within the space of about 5-10 minutes, nothing clever here, just a quick bit of spline modelling for the shape, proboolean for the slots, then a bit of rotate snapping and then a bit of thought into which directions i want to copy/mirror a group to make the manual placement easier, there really is nothing to precise here, i reckon with a bit more study on the image you provided, i could have created it exact just by looking at how many pieces there are and rotating individual parts into place oops i just noticed that one of them hasn't been roated properly, but you get the idea
Antisthenes
anywhere you want but i think it would be easiest .... oops wrong sub forum
