robert taylor
Hi all, I am currently trying to render an interior scene using radiosity,But when i import a chair model from a previously created scene and try to render the room again, the whole scene locks up and rendering stops in mid flow, i replaced the material on the chair from chrome (raytrace material) to wood (not raytraced) and it works fine, can anyone tell me why the chair causes problems in my scene as i would like to have the frame in chrome not wood. Also yet another little problem is that when i calculate my radiosity solution and the enable meshing is turned on and free point photometric light is placed in the scene ,once calculated the meshing that represents the light bounce seems to be placed inside the wall and not on the visable parts of the scene i.e the bed, walls other furniture. So i enabled use adaptive subdivision this seems to have solved the problem with the light being calculated inside the wall cavitys, but instead puts just a patch of meshing in the centre of the room. Sorry for the long post and any help would be gratefully appreciated, many thanks.
quizzy
are you scaling imported models?
robert taylor
Hi quizzy, yes i rescale the models as they are too big for this current scene,I did the same for a wooden bed i imported no problem in render, for some reason the radiosity option when rendering does not like my other materials like chrome or glass in windows. I have just tried creating a pre made fixed window in max 8,then converting to (editable poly) and using the face in the centre (poly mode) whilst still selected to add my glass material,i can see it on screen but again when rendered as soon as it detects the glass the whloe render and programe suddenly locks up and does nothing (all day if i let it). Any Idea`s welcome.
quizzy
if you scale your models, be sure to use the reset x-form followed by a convert to editable mesh. reset x-form can be found in the utility panel. radiosity does not like scaling. as far as the long renders; try not to use regathering, this is VERY slow on reflective and refractive surfaces
robert taylor
Many Thanks to you, i have just x-formed my chair model and now it shows the chrome material,You are a star:cool:. Do you have any idea`s on why the glass material does the same as the chair used to (lock out)?? And why once i convert the fixed window (that i insert into my wall) to a editable poly as soon as i quit the drawing and then return it seems to have sunk into the wall and if moved the opening for it dissapears and is no longer part of the wall. Sorry for the questions and thanks for your time.
quizzy
first convert your wall to an editable poly or mesh and the your window. The wall prolly looses the relation it has with the window when the window is converted to editable poly
robert taylor
O.k thank`s i can do that, but how do you create glass in a fixed window from max8 AEC extended option, as the object created seems to be just one item, frame and window combined, so when i add material be it wood for the frame or the actual glass the whole window becomes wood or glass. I have tried convert to poly to select the face whare the glass should be and this works but causes other problems like the window not being part of the wall anymore and dissapearing into it ,is there another way!! Thank`s
quizzy
the windows need a multi/sub material which you will find in the AECextended material library
