Running backburner on 64 & 32 bit

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Apologies if this has been covered before.

I am planning to by a new 64 bit workstation to run 3d studio max and use my current workstation (32 bit) as a render slave with backburner & Vray DR.

My simple question is - do I have to upgrade the render slave to 64 bit as well to work with my main computer. I realise that it is probably a good idea to as I will be able to render larger files without it crashing, but will it work if I don't.....

Thanks in anticipation

Helen

Have to? No.. It is helpful however if you can do it, because then you can use the 64bit version of max.

Otherwise you'll still need to use the 32bit version of max! which works, we've been doing that here for the last year, we finally just upgraded the last of the workstations to 64bit! but half of the renderfarm is still xp32, so we're limited to using max32 in that regard until there is a chance to upgrade the OS's.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the reply - it buys me some time to make sure I can get all my software working on the 64 bit before I upgrade my current PC basically, but I think I will upgrade as there doesn't seem to be much point having the capacity on one pc which isn't matched by the one doing the rendering, it would be a bit limiting!
