Thablanch
Usually Vray users do not use Ambient occlusion..Most of the time, there is no use for it. You can refer to the tutorial about VrayDirt in the Vray help files There is also some scripts around to generate the ambient occlusion pass, http://plugins.angstraum.at/vrayao/ http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/vray-ambient-occlusion http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/vray-autvel-passes Hope it helps
BrianKitts
Usually Vray users do not use Ambient occlusion..Most of the time, there is no use for it. I would disagree, you may be correct to say many don't use it, but you'll find it's popularity is growing. We use it on almost every production rendering. Nic H
i always make an 'ambient occlusion' pass. sometimes its useful, sometimes not. multiply it over and adjust opacity to suit. use it as a mask to put some dirt on etc etc make a VrayExtraTex render element and put a material on it with vray dirt as the diffuse. thats it. i wouldnt bother with scripts when its so easy to auto generate it. The right slider adjusts your overall image up to it's white point, and beyond that it will cut back the depth of the AO, and your center slider adjusts the density (opacity) of the AO layer. it's pretty slick. Nic H
yes thanks I will do that in future, much better control than just using opacity really. i allready often do that with zdepth to fiddle with the black/white range and grey midpoint.
