Devin Johnston
This year we have a little extra money left over and have to spend it before the end of the year so I'd like to get some suggestions on software that you've found to be very beneficial in your daily work. We use 3D Studio and Vray so what ever it is should work well with these two programs. One thing I'm pretty sure I'm getting is Vray Scatter, what else should I get? Tommy L
An excellent tool I use all the time is DOFpro. Only $50 from Richard Rosenman.

Tommy L
ProEXR plugin WACOM tablet Totally agree on the Wacom tablet recommendation...I bought a Kensington Pro trackball at the same time and I would recommend this as a mouse alternative/replacement. What do you use the ProEXR plugin for and how much is it? Ive just started using .exr's and the free plugin does the job in PS. Do you use it for Aftereffects? BrianKitts
What do you use the ProEXR plugin for and how much is it? Ive just started using .exr's and the free plugin does the job in PS. Do you use it for Aftereffects? The free plugin doesn't support opening additional channels within one EXR file. I typically add the z-depth, specular, and shadow channels in with the RGB channels to use in post production. back to the original question... Another thing I would purchase is some people content, both 2D & 3D. Any project I can lately I've been throwing extra into the budget for buying more and more people content. Never hurts to have more. Edited December 22, 2008 by BrianKitts
Tommy L
Yes, Ive just been doing some reading. Im going to have to update my enormously out of date Photoshop and Aftereffects to reap the full benefits. Looks like Im getting CS4 for Christmas..... Oh, and back on topic, Id agree with whomever mentioned extra machines for DR. Has totally changed 3d for me.
alias_marks
I've only tried it out a little bit, but the capability to easily animate growing trees and landscape just gets me jazzed. If I were purchasing software right now, I might give GrowFX a whirl - http://exlevel.com/
Trick
I've only tried it out a little bit, but the capability to easily animate growing trees and landscape just gets me jazzed. If I were purchasing software right now, I might give GrowFX a whirl - http://exlevel.com/ It's slow on larger models, but possibilities are endless. Especially the objects that can influence (magnet, slice, avoid) the shape of the tree. And they have a discount during the holidays. If you do interiors also look at this new site: DesignConnected Interiors are going to be a lot more fun in the future...more about designing the right atmosphere and less about that technically perfect render...
