Spacelord
Really interested in the grass, they talk about it being procedural, is this only in there render engine ? or will it stay procedural for Mental Ray as well ?
BrianKitts
Onyx is not a rendering engine, it creates actual geometry, so it's product can be used in any 3D application, regardless of rendering engine.
Spacelord
Yep I understand its not a fully fledge renderer, but it does render, well in the broadleaf app if can render out billboards. What I'm trying to say is the procedural modeling won't have any benefit to rendering, you will still have to do your modeling in onyx, export to a HUGE 3ds or the ONX file, import into your favourite 3d app. The 3D modeled grass turns out to be one huge mesh which your Renderer has to use up a lot of ram to process. Modeling procedurally in Onyx has no benefit to rendering ? Is this right ?
