AJLynn
I've been given a Nikon D60 and a 2gb card so I'd like a larger one. I'm seeing an awful lot of types all claiming to be faster than all the others and they can't all be telling the truth, so does anybody have experience with these and actually know whether any of the SDHC cards out there are better than any others? If I do a 4-shot burst in raw format it takes a few seconds to catch up so if it's possible I'd like to speed that up.
ihabkal
absolutely there are cards that are twice or even faster than twice than others. There are ones that are more pro and more expensive. But also the camera has to be a fast writer to take advantage. Here's a nice review about memory cards http://www.steves-digicams.com/high-capacity_storage.html SDHC cards are at the end of the article. AFK_Matrix
If your wanting speed over size then look for cards that are Class 6. Basically you can have Class 2,4 and 6 and 2 will be the slowest transfer speed with 6 being the fastest. The Class number is usually on the card in a little circle, but when buying the description of the card should say what class it is, if not you will have to email/phone the company selling them to check. You can get 8GB Class 6 cards and I am not sure but I belive you can get Class 4/6 16gb cards but they are really expensive.
AJLynn
Thanks guys. After reading Ihab's tips I did more research and found that: 1: It's hard to get a benchmark becaus all cameras perform differently 2: The available data suggest that the Lexar Professional and Sandisk Extreme III are both very good, but very expensive. I ended up going a notch down to the Sandisk Ultra II, which Amazon had at $40 for 16GB. (Crazy, eh? That's like 1,500 raw shots.) Amazon actually shipped it today via courier from New Hampshire and I got it today even though I'd used free shipping, and it's a good bit faster than the 2GB Kodak "High Speed" card, using my highly scientific test which is to shoot a 4-shot burst in raw and guage how annoyed I get before the camera finishes storing the shots and generating previews. Next goal: get good at Aperture. Here's a practice shot. Merry Christmas.
