Crazy Homeless Guy
Too late to re-render, but wouldn't the same thing be accomplished by just cropping up a little bit? I can do that. Adjusting the camera target up would allowed you to keep all of the great foreground shadows because it is just views it at a different angle. It would have foreshortened the grass, but not cropped it.
Tim Nelson
Oh I see...sort of. I think I know what you mean though. Well I did adjust the cropping a little bit, so I hope it helps. I decided to go with some saplings in the foreground because a) I didn't have the time to make a good high res tree with displacement & all that and b) I like the way they look & think the lower leaves on the left help fill up the solid face of the end of the building. So I think this is just about it. I might try to put a few low plantings in the parking island and around the building tomorrow, and then call it quits...as long as my client says thats ok. Crazy Homeless Guy
Actually, I don't know what I was saying. You would have had to drop the camera also to keep the same amount of information in the foregound, and simply had it foreshortened. Beautiful colors in the image. Did you wind up compositing the grass, or rendering it.
Tim Nelson
Did you wind up compositing the grass, or rendering it. It's a combo. The base is displacement grass, and then I added some photo grass on top of it. I'm still not a fan of the results I get with displacement. I'd rather use scattered proxies but I ran into trouble with that. One of these days this will all be easy.
Tim Nelson
Ok, I think I've got my final here. It's almost what I imagined when I first started, so overall I'm pretty happy with the result. Thanks everyone for your input throughout the process. Final res. was 4000 wide, so this is about 1/3 res. Jpeg compression kind of muddles it a bit too.

Tim Nelson
oh no the squirrel is gone!! Very nice work my friend Thanks. I totally dropped the ball on the squirrel - slipped my mind altogether when I put the trees in. Need to get ol' Bert back in the light.
Gus_Rayvus
Hey Tim, Very nice work as usual. The only thing I might change is toning down the difference in value of the foreground tree/spring on the left from the lit grass. Other than the entrance of the building, it seems to the have the most contrast in your image. It makes my eye compete between the two areas. The foreground sapling on the right is dead on. Either way it is a great image. BTW. Great stash.
Horhe
Well looks nice but composition wise would definetally look better with a branch/ tree in the top left corner than with the plant IMO. Another one out the door, nice work.
