network rendering frustration

I have a pretty large scene with Radiosity where i am using a rendering farm to net render some animations from the file.

at the render farm, we keep having an issue where the network server machines crash after loading up the scene. we only get a "runtime error" message, with no other clues as to what is causing the crash.

on my few machine here, i can successfully run the file through backburner.

has anyone encourtered something like this before?

a few specs. on the file:

.file created in VIZ 4 then merged into MAX 5.1 (with SP1 and Designer Pack)

.with Radiosity - file size is around 100MB

.using alot of RPCs - both people and trees.

I know this is late but...

How do the specs for the failed machines compare to the successful machines? For instance, free hard drive space, processor, available memory, OS

Have you checked to make sure all systems have the current RPC plugin version?

the systems are pretty similar. dual processors, though his are Pentiums, mine are Athlons. 1GB of RAM, 3GB of virtual memory, lots of disk space.

After many rounds of trial and error, my only guesses are that the issue is arising from:

-design-extensions add-on to max (this has to be installed because the file was originally created in VIZ 4)

-rpc plug-in - some of the rpc's were inserted in VIZ 4 with the older rpc plug-in - others were inserted in MAX 5 with the 3.4 plug-in ... i have gotten some wierd messages where net rendering says it can't find a certain RPC file - when in fact it is in that exact location.

-naming convention for drives and map paths - when checking the bitmap paths - some files are mapped as "M:\\folder\file" and some as "\\computer name\folder\file".

i am no expert at this stuff, but those are my guesses as to why the Backburner Server is crashing.
