Can i adjust it so that when i do zoom extent, the model is window-fitted? thnx Monkey
nuno
i dont know if it's what i am thinking....but, try to move the model in AutoCAD to origin 0,0 (x,y) and import it again. best to you nuno
Craig Ramsay
Make sure it isn't an object that is far away from your main model in autocad. Sometimes this happens to me. Try copying from base point just the objects that you need in ACAD, open a new blank drawing, save your new drawing then import or link your new file into Max. STRAT
wat nuno says - max has a spacial problem. move the autocad model to somewhere near 0,0,0 then import into max.
Pierre-Felix Breton
There is another issue with MAX and the zoom tools, this may give you another hint... It's with non scaling objects (like lights or helpers). Although they are displayed with a constant pixel size in the viewports, MAX needs to treat them as regular geometry and they have an "internal/hidden" bounding box that have real physical dimensions. However, when files created in different system units are merged togheter, the non-scaling objects bounding boxes don't get rescaled properly. You end up with objects that are interpreted as being either very large or very small and this confuses the zoom tool. Here is a concrete example: Create an asset using system units == centimeters containing a helper object or a light (non-scaling objects), like a Luminaire assembly or a desk with a lamp. Merge it in a scene done in Meters (like a large building). The internal bounding box of the incoming lights and helpers will be merged with a very large scale and Zoom Extents may get screwed up. You can't really fix this manually though, besides excluding these objects from the zoom extents in the object properties..
Gnarly Cranium
I've had this problem a LOT, with Autocad and ADT, and I can't seem to figure it out. It only happens with SOME objects, and which ones seem entirely random. Sometimes I'll import a file and the whole thing will be fine, other times it decides to be a total pill and everything's all funky.... it acts like the objects have some invisible component way back at the origin. It's not just odd objects like lights and helpers, either-- I just had this problem last week in a file that consisted of nothing more than 3d polylines that outlined the edges of a roof. Jefferson Grigsby
Whenever you have problem with a single object, try this. Create a box near that object, size is not important. Apply an editmesh command to the box and attach the problem object to it. In sub object mode, delete the box. Everything should be fine now. nisus
Idd Jefferson. We use that trick too when someone has used an NUScale instead of an Xform... The same trick helps when splines were scaled, only use edit spline... rgds nisus
