Help needed 2006 crashing in xp

For some reason the ACAD 2006 (and 2005 for that matter) is crashing when opening (or sometimes it waits until closing) a file.

This with xp service pack 3.

I have installed AutoCad sp3.

I have disabled the signature icons.

I have installed the new MF80AU.dll. (I uninstalled the old.)

I have dropped the most recent files number to 0.

Still crashes.

Anyone with ideas?

Virgil,

I had a similar problem years ago with my 2006 civil install and I had to completely remove all the Autodesk files from my computer after I ran the uninstall. After I deleted all the directories and files, I ran a registry cleaning software to remove all the registry entries which autodesk is notorious for leaving behind, then reinstall.

You did not mention what happened just prior to the beginning of the crashes. That may also hold some clues: driver updates, third party software installs/uninstalls...

Bev

I had considered removing all Autodesk stuff next.

It means two copies of Max and two copies of AutoCad to reload.

Ugh

And I run cleaning software also.

But I need to work.

So I found a workaround.

I open a drawing from Explorer.

The drawing opens AutoCad.

I get the exception error. But when I click it away the program stays open and runs normally.

If I open a drawing inside of AutoCad I get the error warning and when I click it away the program crashes.

I suspect my upgrading xp to sp3 might have done it.

The fix Autodesk gives me is for a new MFC80AU link to Microsoft which describes it as a fix for xp sp2.

You can find the link by using the AutoCad Help>Additional Resources>Support Knowledge Base

which leads to Autodesk's suggestions for a fix.

I have been using suggestions on lines 7 and 8.

But I see they also suggest a thorough cleaning as you have.
