shikodesign2000
Hi Friends.. I want to ask you if you saw the animations of the great visualization company http://www.pacificommultimedia.com?? In fact they make a very wonderfull stills and animations, and I'll not discuss this here, I'm just asking about the huge amounts of heavy 3d objects (3d trees+cars with highly reflected materials+3d walking people) in their animations... What do you think the trick in something like this?? is it just the strong workstation machines?? I mean even you use your experts and select the minimum good solutions for modelling and lighting, I think the big quality animated scenes need more than this.. Please if anyone has an openion, this will be great.
ihabkal
Hi Sherif, I e-mailed my penpal the president of Pacificom Mr. Darrell and asked him to reply to your post, I hope he will, he is usually busy but let's keep our fingers crossed. I want to know how he does it too.

No tricks involved The amount of processing here is well within reach of a small pro studio setup. ie, a couple of octs with plenty of ram. Also, it's very common for a studio to use render farms. also, break it down - there's not too much (if any) DOF. blurry reflections are kept to a minimum, transparencies are also kept down (note a lot of glass is pure mirror. much faster to render), foliage looks like a mixture of planes and proxy objects, 3d peeps (both still and animated) are a mixture of AXYZ and RPC (and marlin studios (2d planes)). These are fairly low in poly size and the movement cycles dont take up render power. Cars could easily be lowpolygon3d style for example. Areas shadow samples kept down, good AA solutions etc etc Getting top results is a question of good artistry together with clever optimization. You really need to know your software and how to sort out your various GI and cached GI solutions. So you see, not too render intensive when you look at it closely. Funny though, the animations look a lot better than the still work.
shikodesign2000
Thanks Ihab for your interest, and I hope we get a good reply soon. Thanks also Stephen for your professional explanaition, and really this help very much, but I'm still very impressed by many shots that's full of cars like the large parking with large amount of trees and high quality buildings and people. The best thing they make is that you don't feel any problem when using 2d plans trees for example, the 3d feel is so great. By the way Stephen, do you have a website or link to see your work?? ihabkal
Hi Guys, I got this response from Mr. Darrell: "Hi and Happy New Year. We use the HD Instance plug-in for massing objects in a scene. And of course we do have very powerful machines and built our own render farm. Darrell Ratliff President Pacificom Multimedia LLC"
