realeric
as an architect, what software are you guys using most, i'm wondering... i'm still a student now and use acad for modelling and max/vray for rendering for years. but since bim introduced,i'm considering about changing my workflow to revit... just want to know how effective revit on the field... STRAT
acad and max is just fine. we use sketchup and c4d (and sometimes acad and fmZ). Try revit for yourself. see if it fits your work flow and your requirements. for us, bim isn't a requirement.
realeric
thanx for reply, problem i meet using cad for modelling is the lack of capability to handle a large project. i've just finished a low rise (7 floor) hotel project this semester. model the entire building including steel structure inside. the 3d file size in cad is 120 mb, and barely open the file, so i have to separate the podium, typical floors and the upper floor, and assemble them in max. i just think it is not efficent way for working. Frosty
Eric, most people on this forum are not architects but are instead illustrators. The software required for working drawings and for illustration is very different. You will find that most people here use Max with Vray, but there are many other options such as C4D, Maya, Rhino, Lightwave, Modo, Sketchup and others. Personally, I use a mix up of AutoCad, FormZ and C4D - and have done for about 10 years. If you are approaching this question from an designers standpoint and want a one stop shop, I think you'll be hard pressed to beat Revit. However, my standard advice to this question is to download all of the demos available for your platform and give them a spin. No software is perfect, but some may be better to your work-flow. Try them and see what you like and don't like.
morri
Mix of Acad, sketchup and Kerkythea. BIM products too expensive and standardised for my tastes
Antisthenes
i use(d) Rhinoceros and if i don't have that and the company has a autodesk license i use autocad and max and if they are open minded and economic i prefer to use intellicad the reason to pick rhinoceros is pretty obvious to me after one use. tdemoss
Hi, I have just registered to this site and stumbled upon this post. The company I work for uses a mixture of Vertex BD, ACA, and Revit. They are all great BIM softwares. Depending on the level of detail that you are wanting to get from a BIM model would depend on which one I would Reccomend. Liman
You can use any software you wish but it depends on the thing you are going to do. Are you going to use it for architectural visualizations?
