mcs84
Good Day to All, I have just started to learn vray for use in my interior renderings. Currently I am facing a problem of my renderings being patchy. The following render was done in 1200 x 900 res. I am unable to post any image links as this is my 1st post (anyway around this?). My current settings are as follows: 1) Adaptive DMC (min subdivs = 1, max subdivs = 4), Catmull-Rom DMC Sampler: Adaptive amount = 0.85, Noise Threshold = 0.005, Min Samples = 8, Global Subdivs Multiplier = 1.0 2) Indirect Illumination (GI): Primary Bounces = 1.0 (Irradiance Map), Secondary Bounces = 0.85 (Light Cache) 3) Irradiance Map: Preset High (min rate = -3, max rate = 0), HSph Subdivs = 30, Interp. Samples = 20, Interpolation Type: Least Squares Fit, Sample lookup: Density Based (Best) 4) Light Cache: Subdivs = 1000, Sample Size = 0.02, Scale = Screen, No. of Passes = 8 5) Caustics: Multiplier = 1.2, Search Dist = 5.0mm, Max Photons = 60, Max Density = 0.0mm I left 2 Sides of the walls to allow light to pass through as I wanted to save time created the whole of the floorplan. I was wondering if it has to do with using the default global lighting. Should I have created an enclosed space and used a vray sunlight instead? Looking forward to any replies. Thank you very much~! STRAT
I am unable to post any image links as this is my 1st post (anyway around this?). just type the www address into your post here. we'll copy and paste. (make the hemi samps higher)

STRAT
i see it i use the c4d vray. to smooth out the blotches i'd up the hemi samples considerably, then i might also up the inters a few too
mcs84
Thanks alot. I managed to solve the problem by increasing the DMC Sampler and global subdivs multiplier to
STRAT
upping the global subdivs multiplier isn't the correct way to do it.
mcs84
I was following the vray interior tutorial at the website vray.us and it solved the blotchy patches. Is there a better solution you would recommend? They did mentioned this in the tutorial with regards to the Hsph subdivs and global subdivs: "The increased Global subdivs multiplier affects the irradiance map too, so if we render now with GI, it will be too slow. Set the Hemispheric subdivs for the irradiance map to 8.0." Any comments will be greatly appreciated
Nic H
thats a weird way to clean up gi splotches. try something like 50/30 and -6,-1.
mcs84
Thanks alot nicnic, that really cleared up the splotches too and it renders much faster~! Thank you very much~! Still wondering why the tutorial taught that method. And its the official vray web too~!
STRAT
it's might be explaining something different. you shouldn't clean splotches up by globally increasing samples. Nic's solution is what i told you in the beginning
Nic H
vray.us is a spam site as far as i know, not offficial. check out chaosgroup forum. also take a look at Brian Smiths tutorials, they are an excellent foundation for troubleshooting stuff like this
mcs84
Thank you very much to both nicnic and strat Will look more into the tutorials.
gfriedman
thats a weird way to clean up gi splotches. try something like 50/30 and -6,-1. what are those values for? sorry I'm kind of a noob. I'm having the patchy render problem
caicedor
Hi, I'm new to the forum and new using vray, but I think those values are for Hsph subdivs, interpol. Samples, min rate and max rate of irradiance map. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong!!
aaronrumple
Hi, I'm new to the forum and new using vray, but I think those values are for Hsph subdivs, interpol. Samples, min rate and max rate of irradiance map. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong!! That's correct. I usually start with a medium IR setting and then adusts the min/max rate per the image size. I typically use -5,-3 for a 1900px wide image. I also stay with the stock 50/20 for the Hsph and interpol. Those could probably be adjusted for more speed. Also images without enough light or poor exposure settings will tend to be more splotchy in my experiance.
